Figs Student Coordinator
The FIGs (Freshman Interest Groups) program is a group of introductory level classes at the University of Missouri. The 20 students in a class all live on the same floor of their Residence Hall, are taught by their upperclassman Peer Advisor who lives on the same floor, and are co-enrolled in 3 classes together their first semester of college. A FIG class will also have a focus area such as Engineering, Journalism, or Science that all enrolled students have shown interest in. As a Student Coordinator, I am responsible for overseeing the teachings of 20 Peer Advisors who are in total responsible for 400 freshman students. This includes direct supervision, performing work assessments, and ensuring quality education is provided to the students. Lesson plans of the Peer Advisors are read weekly and group sessions with Peer Advisors are facilitated. In addition, meetings are held between Student Coordinators, the Director of Residential Life, and the Associate Dean of Arts and Science to plan and adjust the future of a very successful FIGs program.
Global Engineering Ambassador
Serving as a student leader over 17 students for a site visit to Arcadia University in Athens, Greece. This visit was part of a Greece Engineering History and Culture class. Responsibilities included leading the group to different sites in Greece, ensuring travel deadlines were met, and assisting with the needs of students during the visit. Outside of the trip, I serve as an ambassador of the Engineering Study Abroad program, presenting to organizations and classes about the benefits of studying abroad with the College of Engineering and availability of our various trips.
Mechanical Engineer Intern
Worked with the Human Factors team in the EV-74 Vehicle Systems branch of Marshall Space Flight Center. With a trip to Mars in the future of spaceflight, lots of work has to be done now to get ready for the day we launch many years down the road. My project was to design a control system for a Human Space Habitat that will travel to Mars. Through this project, testing was completed to see the capabilities of this system in the harsh environment of spaceflight where communication to Earth is scarce. In addition, work was done to design a new experiment layout on the International Space Station's Materials Science Research Rack.
Peer Advisor
As a Peer Advisor, I perform any and all duties that a typical Residential Advisor (RA) would perform, with additional responsibilities on top. Being a resource to students is my first job. This includes responding to student crisis, assisting with questions, and aiding with on-campus resources. I work to develop an academically focused community within the residence hall I work within, and work on projects involving other residence halls as well. With the responsibilities of a Peer Advisor, I write lesson plans and teach an Interdisciplinary Studies Proseminar class that has a focus on Science and Engineering as a whole.
Mechanical Engineer Intern
Working in the NASA Robotics Academy at the Marshall Space Flight Center for the Summer of 2015. The small group project I was a part of is titled Space Robotic Manipulator Development. During the internship the three of us researched, designed, tested, and optimized a robotic system, FlexCraft, with the goal of using it for astronauts to perform efficient exterior repairs and maintenance in space.
Customer Service Attendant
As a Customer Service Attendant, my main job was to provide customer service to consumers. Additional responsibilities included performing food service operations, serving as a cashier, and maintaining cleanliness in the place of employment.
