Not long after I realized my dream of playing in the big leagues wasn’t going to happen, I decided to follow my next passion – the mountains. I began my post-University career in Lake Louise as a Front Desk Agent at a resort. There I learned the intricacies of customer service and the importance of ongoing communication with co-workers; essentially problem-solving before things became problems. It wasn’t long before a dual Day & Night Audit/Shipping & Receiving position opened up. It was this position that really honed my attention to detail and more technical problem-solving skills. From there I became an Assistant Front Office Manager. Roles in this position included handling guest issues, room “juggling”, staff recruitment, and front-line revenue/yield management duties. The yield management role was very energizing as we were being active and strategic in pursuing monthly budget goals. The position also allowed for some creativity where I put together monthly room-upgrade competitions to staff.After 3.5 years in Lake Louise it was time to move on, so my wife and I moved back to Armstrong. I decided to pursue a career as an Insurance Broker/Producer. As my book grew, I relied on my organizational and attention to detail skills to ensure I stayed on top of the ongoing roll of renewals and new business. I find that my previous experience dealing with customers helps with my sense of empathy; as well as my intuitive nature to see potential problems ahead of time, and navigating accordingly. I’ve learned how to analyze a risk and then explain it to an underwriter in an effort to provide insurance to protect my client’s assets and liability exposures. I also enjoy the technical matters of insurance, knowing where to find specific coverages. As my kids grow older, I’ve also began a side-career as a volunteer fire fighter. Being able to give back in some tangible way has long been a goal of mine, and I’m proud to serve with a great crew.
