I love creating and educating. I've succeeded wearing many other hats but the ball caps of "building things" and "teaching people" are definitely my favorite style.My career started in the data science and machine learning space with machine learning model design/implementation/serving, experimentation, and product analytics work including dashboarding and reporting. I helped Shipt go from a startup to a 550m acquisition by building critical financial reporting, desiging and serving high-profile ML models, and providing technical leadership and vision for the Data Science Org.These days, I mainly do data engineering for both analytical and operational goals, and I provide technical data leadership for the Shop App and Shop Umbrella of products at Shopify. I strive to make best practices the path of least friction for others, ensure we are building quality and impactful data assets in a timely manner, and I still find time to build some data models myself. I happily step in and support in ML spaces, analytic/data science spaces, and software engineering spaces when asked. One of my superpowers is being dropped into technical systems and "figuring it out". This pairs well with my pragmatism to drive incremental system improvement with long term direction.I'm not opposed to pivots in future roles; that's part of the fun!At my core I believe that people are valuable, important, and worthwhile. Led construction of eligibility components, combining data across multiple systems in real time.- Defined, explored, adjusted, and monitored merchant eligibility rules for the Shop app. Drove ~1% increase GMV in 1 month, added hundreds of thousands of shops to our platform, and removed ~200k fraudulent/low quality merchants.- Architecture visioning and execution to make merchant and product eligibility more understandable, more actionable, and more responsive.- Supported the Shop Cash product, finance, and data science teams via foundational data modeling, reporting, and system understanding. Including building key dashboards for Shop Cash Offers launch, consumption modeling of Shop Cash for finance, and internal data models.- Built dashboards and tools to identify merchants who are fraudulent on the Shop app - led to the discovery of new fraud patterns and signals unknown to Shopify.
