Through assessment and collaboration, I help develop safety and care plans with families to ensure the safety of children. To develop short- and long-term care plans in an effort to support family well-being, I interview clients, evaluate safety concerns and protective factors, investigate child welfare reports and connect families with community supports and services.

The most challenging tasks I completed in this placement were interviewing youth who had committed sexual offences and other serious offences. This included gathering information for pre-sentence reports, and completing the reports for court. Also, participating in family case planning conferences, complex care intervention meetings with various professionals, and attending home visits were valuable experiences. I engaged a trauma informed lens while working with Probation Officers and Protection Social Workers to complete these and the following tasks. For example, in interviewing, and referral and report writing, I developed a client-centred, strengths-based, collaborative practice to promote client's safety and self-determination.Other tasks I completed were referrals to full-time attendance programs, forensic psychiatric services, intensive support and supervision workers, etc. Also I completed SAVRY assessments, intensive support and supervision plans, pre-sentence reports and vulnerability/needs assessments to determine protection intervention.
