Lead the Translational Research Team at the University of Birmingham to drive innovative discovery science towards the clinic.I work with academics, clinicians, tech transfer colleagues, consultants and industrial partners to develop translational projects in the life sciences.

I drive the identification, protection and exploitation of IP and also the development of translational research in collaboration with industry partners at the NIHR Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre at the University of Birmingham.The Birmingham BRC plays a key role in developing inflammatory research to deliver treatments to patients faster in three major areas: inflammatory arthritis, inflammatory gastroenterology and inflammatory sarcopenia.

I am the technology transfer officer in the college of medical and dental sciences at the University of Birmingham. I offer tech transfer support to academics across the research institutes in the Medical School, this includes prior art searching around an invention, FTO searching around new projects and IP support in grant applications. This enhances the impact that research at the University attains and also provides an important revenue stream for projects with commercial potential.I also liaise with the University's dedicated spin-out and commercialisation company, Alta Innovations, and the business engagement partners in the University when academics are seeking a route to market.

I developed my knowledge and understanding of IP through training and practical experience on a number of inventions ranging from organic pharmaceuticals to new medical diagnostic platforms. I worked with project managers to discuss novelty, inventive step and freedom to operate issues and helped to implement an IP strategy taking these issues into account. This role required meticulous attention to detail and being able to work to deadlines to meet the inventor’s publishing strategies.
