I relocated to Sydney to lead the establishment of TOMRA Collection's Australian business after winning the right to operate the NSW container deposit scheme. With full strategic, operational and financial accountability for the business as the most senior executive on the ground and a board member of our JV, I was responsible to 230 staff across all functions, with 6-8 direct reports. Key milestones include leading a 40-person task force of TOMRA employees drawn from the global enterprise to help establish the business and mobilise our contract with the NSW government in just 4 months, mobilising a network of 600 collection points over the following year. I then led ourexpansion into QLD and WA and grew revenues across Australia 93% over 4 years. We did this while addressing state-specific challenges, along with time pressures and COVID-19 restrictions. Our success has positioned Australia as the world’s first “container deposit continent" and has led to the collection of over 10 billion beverage containers. I also established operating practices in Australia to meet compliance and business requirements, creating “how-to” examples for the global TOMRA business in areas of recruitment, safety, marketing, COVID-19 response, product innovation and culture.

Promoted to galvanise a recently formed team during a challenging time for the local business, I owned full P&L responsibility, leading a team of 60 through 6 direct reports, and closelymanaging a material processing partner with a staff of 30. I managed key stakeholderrelationships as a member of the TOMRA North America Senior Leadership Team with keyoutcomes including stemming decline and reigniting growth, increasing container volume and associated revenue 66% across targeted customer locations. I drove volume and revenuegrowth via the “Rapid Redeem” operational excellence program, using consumer research and insights to grow volume and pickup frequency. I also led the largest system integrity campaign in company history to restore profile and protect credibility and led a number of innovations to align our products with the needs of the Metro NY market.

Appointed to bring structure to expanding operations by establishing a System Integrity/Loss Prevention program and assisting in the establishment of material recovery operations in Metro NY, which were previously operated by a third party. I held full P&L responsibility, managing 6 direct reports and up to 100 operational staff, engaging with beverage industry, retail, and redemption center stakeholders as well as the state Department of Environment. I grew Material Recovery revenue and earnings, beginning a multi-year upward revenue trend that I carried into my nextrole. My early work in establishing TOMRA’s System Integrity/Loss Prevention program for the US, building exception reporting to identify areas for intervention, engaging with the beverage industry and embedding strong program governance led to the above promotion.

Promoted to lead the establishment of a centralised call center and dispatch function during period of steady growth, I managed OPEX and CAPEX budgets and supervised 5 direct reports, supporting approximately 100 drivers and their managers across 14 facilities in 6 states, serving approximately 5,000 customers. Through the centralisation initiative, we delivered first real-time tracking and reporting of all key operations metrics in the TOMRA Material Recovery business and a step-change in customer experience, and a more effective order management system thatwas integrated to route optimization software in collaboration with IT.
