Co-Founder/Event ProducerStar Crew Events Sep 2007 - Sep 2014Greater New York City AreaAt the age of 23, I used money I had saved working in the hospitality industry and invested in sound, visual and lighting equipment to start an event company with a few close friends from high school. As a young entrepreneur entering a highly competitive industry, I knew we needed to stand out. That said, we came up with an idea to custom build deejay booths featuring a light up monogram Star Crew logo etched into the front of the booth for branding, the booths also featured built-in flat screen TV's which displayed captivating visuals and streamed live photo montages during events. We also created a chic white tufted leather booth that at the time had never been seen before in the industry. Our fresh and innovative event setups made a big splash with clients.Although, what we were doing set us apart from other event companies, we still felt the need to expand into new arenas for business and exposure. We approached clothing companies and offered trade show booth design services that incorporated our lighting, visuals and sound concepts into the setups. This worked very well drawing more attention to the booths and increased sales. We also targeted gyms and sporting venues presenting the idea of having live deejays during group workout classes as well as sound, lighting and visuals during sporting events.As a result, we were able to tap into new unsaturated markets. This began to catch the eye of some of NY’s premier event & entertainment companies. Up until this point we had been competing with them. However, I recognized the challenging economic circumstances at the time and saw an opportunity to build partnerships and collaborate with them. They would outsource my services as a producer/live engineer/DJ and I would use my equipment, manage and produce events for their clients. This decision proved to be a success as it enabled Star Crew Events to more than double it's revenue. We went from producing 4 events a month on average to 4 events per week!
