Achieved candidacy in the Marine Biology and Environmental Biology department at USC. As part of my duties I carry out independent research in collaboration with my PI and have proficiency in Matlab, R, bash command line, and familiarity with python. I have developed a method of low-dimensional representation (Reynolds et al. 2023) for identifying co-occurring collections of functions in large genomic datasets using bayesian modeling. Other projects include characterizing organismal metabolism in thousands of draft genomes and clustering data using unsupervised machine learning techniques (Reynolds et al. 2024), as well as network theory based measures of programmatic accuracy for metabolic modeling software (Reynolds et al. in prep.).

Began as a PhD student in the Quantitative and Computational Biology program at USC with a focus on the co-location of metabolic functions in ocean microbial metagenomes. Transitioned to the Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography program to gain more domain knowledge while continuing my computational dissertation research.

San Antonio, Texas Area

Hired on to a biomathematics group as a student researcher to study the movement of epithelial cell monolayers. Used Matlab to collect and standardize data and model the diffusion of the cell lines with a wild type cell line and a cell line with a knocked down gene (ZO-1) for tight junction expression to compare their diffusivity coefficients and wound healing behavior. Also worked with the cell lines, culturing, growing, wounding them and running migration assays. Collaborated on projects interfacing with chemistry analyzing the pitch of certain helical carbon-based molecules and with sports analytics creating and optimizing ranking and predictions codes.

Austin, Texas Area

I worked for Gfree Bio as a summer intern, primarily in developing Matlab code for data analysis. My work involved data clustering and developing linear models on a large database of well-known ligand-protein interactions to characterize the relationship between ligand size and binding affinity. I also developed a linear model using MonteCarlo sampling to assess the contribution of different heavy atom types to the overall binding affinity of a particular ligand. Some of this work has been published.
