PROJECT SUMMARY ROLE Clinical Trials Biotech Pilot Plant This project included engineering services and products for control of a fully automated and validated flexible batch manufacturing process using biotech equipment and their associated utilities. The project team was involved in the project from the initial planning stages through the commissioning and startup of the facility. This large DeltaV system was comprised of 6,700 I/O points with 90% of the I/O utilizing Fieldbus and Device Net bus technology. Process areas contained equipment for Media Preparation, Bioreactors, Fermentors, Product Harvest and Purification. The batch control included full automation of CIP and SIP systems, closely integrated with production control to maximize equipment availability. Continuous control was provided for the utilities.

This biotech manufacturing facility produces bulk insulin that is then sent to a Fill-Finish facility for packaging. The process is a batch operation including fermentation, isolation, and purification processes as well as the utility operations to support both the process areas and the administration buildings. The global project team was involved in the project from the preliminary engineering phase through the plant commissioning and startup phase. Project management and Technical expertise was provided in the preliminary engineering phase for both automation and validation strategy and for project execution strategy.This project included both modular and stick built buildings and three DeltaV automation systems with approximately 14,000- I/O points. The systems utilize field bus and DeviceNet technology and interface to PLC controlled equipment such as centrifuges and autoclaves. The systems also interface to the plant Data Historian; Setting up all of the DeltaV hardware for the development and test systems. Loading and managing the software for each process cell into the test systems.Adding users into DeltaV security, routine cleans and maintenance.Configuring and maintaining Dynamic Mimic simulation for each process cell.
