I'm a coder, have been as far back as I can remember. My first paying gig was in seventh grade, when I wrote TI-83 calculator programs that solved quadratic equations and sold them to my peers for goods out of the vending machines. Software ethics wasn't at the forefront of my mind then but to my seventh grade self it was a good way to make friends and keep my supply of Mr. Pibb rolling in. It wasn't that big of a deal because teachers started to require that people show their work, a problem I later fixed with an updated version. (I don't recall if I charged for upgrades.)After high school I worked on spam filtering on top of Novell mail solutions for a year. Eventually a friend of mine recruited me to California where I spent the next five-plus years working on a cloud automation platform, building features that AWS would eventually integrate into their own platform.
