I thrived in the disruptive and innovative culture here.I worked on Project Wing, the autonomous drone delivery system, designing and executing a deployment strategy for the initial domestic launch. My system was versatile and robust enough to enable the operation of Wing's delivery service anywhere in the US. After working with cross-functional teams to create, build, and test the mobile operating unit, the drone project was successfully launched at Virginia Tech—the first time that autonomous, commercialized drones have been tested with people in the United States.

Protiviti is a global consulting and internal audit company and during my internship with the company I partnered with their IT audit group. The project was to improve the transparency and efficiency of the IT audit process for both the client and Protiviti auditors. My team accomplished this by building a Quickbase reporting dashboard to check client compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. This required us to upgrade the tracking and recording system of Excel templates that had been used up to that point, to that of an online relational database thus improving security and reliability.

Sundance is a private real estate debt fund. While there, I led an initiative to understand and develop partnerships within the real estate crowdfunding industry. This project ended up with a partnership deal with EquityMultiple which resulted in $435,000 being raised for a new construction office complex. Another project I was in charge of was to create improved pro forma templates to analyze loans, equity deals, and joint-venture development deals with the use of megaformulas and VBA. Other responsibilities included expanding the operational networks and internal databases of Sundance between registered investment advisors, family offices, brokers, bankers, new investors, and top franchises to create more opportunities for deals and funding. To accomplish this I used VBA to rip web data and created new marketing materials that outlined our different financing options, operations, and business model.

While working with a team of six to develop a comprehensive review of all newly emerging venture capital and private equity backed education technology companies, I was appointed as Team Leader by my peers. The goal was to develop an M&A investment analysis for Cisco's Strategy and Product Management divisions in the "EdTech" sector. We produced an analysis of 300 different companies, their key differentiating factors, their investors, and the amount of capital raised to determine trends, potential challenges, and market opportunity within different subsets of "EdTech".

I was thrilled to be a teaching assistant for Advanced Financial Management, one of my favorite courses I've taken at BYU. I enjoyed this opportunity to teach and clarify financial principles for the students, including: analysis of financial statements and ratios, forecasting, theories of capital structure, and company valuations while managing performance feedback and reporting.Other responsibilities included grading homework assignments, Harvard case study projects, and exams. Because of the nature of the class, each project and exam must be uniquely evaluated. I strived to ensure accurate and timely feedback to improve the overall understanding of the students.

San Francisco Bay Area

Being in the Bay Area at one of the premier tech companies in the nation was both an amazing education and work experience. I worked with an Intuit acquisition called Demandforce, located in San Francisco, on their Data Analytics and Business Intelligence teams. I had no previous experience in these fields and decided to learn fast and work hard. I developed both the back and front ends of multiple Qlikview dashboards to improve reporting, data accessibility, and eliminate the need for ad-hoc reports for the managers of the company. I also directed a project to collect and organize over 58,000 data points to perform an analysis on the optimal company profiles to use one of Demandforce's features, online booking appointments on Yelp. At the Lean Startup Summit in Mountain View, interns from across the nation gathered to experiment with the delight-driven innovation techniques that Intuit teaches. My team consulted real people about real product ideas that we developed, and we won the competition's "Most Creative Experiment to Test Assumptions."

As a property manager, I worked directly with tenants, maintenance companies, and the owner to facilitate smooth operations of rent collection, deposit, and all other issues. One of my successes was finding a tenant to rent one of the properties -- I was able to create an effective advertisement, get the contract signed, and collect the deposit all within days. Real estate has always been one of my passions, and my experience at Durrant Property Investments taught me more about how to be a successful business professional in this field.

My experience with one of the best hedge funds in the nation allowed me to build upon my financial background. I became familiar with Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ. My team performed a small-cap investment analysis to propose potential candidates for Accretive. I also worked to create a comparative analysis of Accretive Capital's performance returns compared to seven different indices. It was very satisfying to know that my project helped to prove the success of Accretive Capital to potential investors.

Working under the direction of Nathan Furr, author of "Nail It Then Scale It"​ and "The Innovator’s Method," I improved my research, communication, and leadership skills. I have been able to apply what I learned working on the Stanford Clean Technology Project in every job since. I performed archival research through the internet and by phone on ten different international energy companies to understand their strategies in going to market. I came to understand how companies decide whether to sell an entire product system, or the isolated product. I trained two new employees on ways to effectively research and on data management.

My team worked to underwrite and purchase a building for $5.58 MM in downtown Phoenix. The property consisted of an old and out of date hospital, which was rehabilitated and leased out to multiple agencies and companies.I also coordinated a project to vacate two RV parks with the city of Tempe, attorneys, federal agencies, and residents. I initiated a plan to save approximately $9,000 in legal fees. My project will enable the construction of a $65 MM multi-use apartment complex along the light rail in Tempe to fulfill the city's goal of beautifying and building up the area. We expect to break ground in early 2016.

I came to understand that each student had individual needs, and was in turn able to tailor my message to those unique demands. This talent will translate well to business as I always strive to better understand my consumer and then work to produce the right solution.
