A few years ago, I was shadowing my dental school mentor and dentist. At the time, she was fixing the water line running into the air-water syringe at her private practice. After she was done, she patted the dust off her hands, looked at me, and said, "A dentist is a scientist, therapist, electrician, plumber, engineer, business person, and friend. Once all those jobs are done, we can then go on to give oral care."Her insight has stuck with me, and since then, I have been on the quest towards enriching myself and acquiring the qualifications necessary to go to dental school. Dentistry is such a fascinating and multi-faceted career, and this uniqueness in the field is why I want to become a dentist.Because dentists are primarily scientists, the journey towards attending dental school starts with biological and chemical sciences. Enrichment in these fields is my main priority. I am also focusing on leadership, community service, and dental education and experience, which are all qualities that a dental student must have for dental school.
