Ryan Mackenzie is a 9th generation resident of Pennsylvania and a strong advocate for the issues we have told him are most important: creating jobs, protecting taxpayers, strengthening education and healthcare, and reforming government.First elected to represent our community in a Special Election in 2012, Ryan has become known as one of Harrisburg's most effective voices: a proven reformer who has successfully authored and passed numerous pieces of legislation - on some of the most important issues facing Pennsylvania - into law and with bipartisan support.Prior to becoming our State Representative, Ryan served as policy director at the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry. In this role, he was successful in championing efforts that saved Pennsylvania taxpayers almost $60 million by refinancing debt and saves an additional $400 million per year through other reform measures. In addition, Ryan worked on other issues relating to unemployment compensation reform, workers’ compensation insurance, the Uniform Construction Code, and workforce development. He also previously worked at the U.S. Department of Labor and was a real estate salesperson licensed in PA.Ryan graduated from Parkland High School, received his undergraduate degree in Finance and International Business from New York University, and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.Involved in a number of charities and nonprofit organizations in our community, Ryan has served Ina number of roles, including the board of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, the executive council of the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute, and the board of a nonprofit that provides affordable housing for seniors. Additionally, he has served on state and federal boards focused on economic development, workforce development, and environmental protection. Ryan was also previously a commissioner on the non-partisan President's Commission on White House Fellowships. Ryan’s work on behalf of our community has earned him numerous awards. He has been named as a 40 Under 40 honoree by both Lehigh Valley Business and City & State PA, was selected as a Toll Fellow by the Council of State Governments, and received the Guardian of Small Business Award from the National Federation of Independent Business.
