University Of Southern California

I was part of a team working on a temporary project at USC's Grand Avenue Library. We weeded and moved approximately 500,000 items from the facility's 1.5 million volumes, compacted the shelves, and updated the university's catalog to reflect our work.

I conducted an archival project funded by the State Library of California; this particular project involved selecting and providing metadata for documents regarding Susanna Bixby Bryant's founding of the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden on its original Orange County site.

Contracted through LAC Group:At the Turchin Business Library, I circulated materials, processed reserve items, updated our serials records, and maintained statistics on our database usage. I also provided reference assistance to Tulane students, faculty, and staff on resources like Cap IQ, PrivCo, Business Source Complete, and Bloomberg Academic. In addition to performing opening/closing duties, I also helped train student assistants and monitor their work hours.

Contracted through LAC Group:At Pepperdine's West L.A. Graduate Campus Library, I performed duties that ranged from material circulation to providing research assistance to graduate students and faculty on business resources like LexisNexis, ABI/INFORM, and CapIQ. I was also part of a small team working on a citation analysis project examining resource usage by Pepperdine's doctoral candidates.

As a volunteer, I retrieved items for inter-library transfer, assisted in setting up monthly themed displays, performed shelving duties, and helped patrons troubleshoot computer issues.

I performed several duties for an immigration law firm in Los Angeles: I researched the backgrounds and distinguished career accomplishments of our O-1 visa clients; guided current green card holders through the process of becoming U.S. citizens and obtained reentry permits for lawful permanent residents who traveled abroad for extended periods and wanted to protect their green card status; co-managed the E-visa and L-visa departments that assisted foreign investors and executives in obtaining work permission in the U.S. I also managed our naturalization department. All of these processes involved a great deal of organization, communication, and careful adherence to federal immigration policies.

The rest of my time was spent on PhD coursework in history and researching the negotiation of African-American identity at world's fairs and industrial expositions around the turn of the 20th century.
