My role as a Restart Advisor consists of managing a caseload of 80-100 participants who are referred to me by the Job Centre due to being long term unemployed. I provide support and signposting services in order to help break down barriers and find my participants sustainable employment. My general day to day duties involve taking appointments both over the phone and in person to motivate participants, and also to establish what progress has been made since our last interaction. I de-escalate conflict with hostile participants and build rapport with them to truly understand their predicament and how I can best support them. I liaise with multiple stakeholders in a professional and efficient manner, ensuring policies are followed in regards to safeguarding and GDPR. Between appointments I participate in reverse marketing - offering a free recruitment service to local companies in order to secure new employment opportunities for my participants.

I accepted the position of working within the construction industry when it was offered to me to gain experience working on the tools. During my time in this field I completed a variety of work such as concreting foundations, constructing drainage runs and fitting bathroom suites. The role allowed me access to visit different sites around the north west and work with a range of people, all of which I eagerly learned what I could from. Day to day tasks included ensuring work was completed to a high standard whilst adhering to a method statement, working within health & safety guidelines and the frequent use of power tools.

Nightly shifts working at Aldi involve being delegated a number of trailers which require loading correctly before being delivered to the stores around the region. My job was to locate the relevant stock and ensure the number of pallets matched up with the job sheet before using a FLT to load the trailers to capacity, this required me to forward think and mentally map out where each pallet would be placed to ensure no space was wasted or stock positioned which could be dislodged during transport.

My role whilst working within the aviation security sector consisted of ensuring that no malicious items were carried on board an aircraft or into an air side environment, therefore being ever vigilant and attentive were of the upmost priority. Also being knowledgeable of the surroundings was a huge benefit when it came to dealing with the members of the public seeking assistance and ensuring everybody experienced a smooth, secure and welcoming environment.

My duties whilst working with E.ON meant I was the warm, reliable expert on the end of the phone when a customer called up to advise of their house move. Whether this was a call to close their account and finalise any payments, to which then i'd more often than not successfully usher them towards transferring the provider over to their new property, or if they had recently moved in and needed to get connected, I would assist them every step of the way before professionally suggesting they invest in central heating cover as an up-sell. My customer service experience increased massively over this time as I became more confident and knowledgeable of the products I was offering. To be my teams top seller and regularly win spot prizes was not uncommon.

My first job since leaving school helped me realise my potential within a working environment, I was initially employed as a customer service assistant, replenishing shelves and maintaining housekeeping standards. However after only a number of months I expressed interest in developing within the store and pursued any opportunity I could, this resulted in being trained to use the tills when extra support was required and having access to the cash office at the end of the day. After several months again I decided I wanted to pursue interests further and put myself forward to be trained to drive the fork lift trucks, once I had obtained this license I could then apply for the vacant position of warehouse manager, my application was successful and I was offered the promotion. Day to day activities then included loading/unloading of deliveries, creating orders and maintaining stock levels and running a team of colleagues on the shop floor.
