I currently have the honor to serve as the Senior Director for Conservation Science for National Parks Conservation Association. I work with a team that facilitates the application of multidisciplinary science (air/climate, energy, landscapes, water, and wildlife) to protect US national parks. That can manifest itself into campaigns, projects, reports, communications, internships, etc.Prior to NPCA, I had an amazing journey working with the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and Conservation Biology Institute with over 10 years in the field, classroom, laboratory, as well as periods of that internationally. I've managed ecological programs throughout the Americas and East Africa and hold a strong interest in applied geospatial science. While developing my dissertation program, I founded the GMU Kenya (Wildlife and Landscapes) Study Abroad program in 2010 and led that program for 12 years.As a STEM career and academic mentor, I work with students to develop strategies for future employment, to negotiate the challenging process of applying to university, and to support university capstone projects. I make a concerted effort to help students, because I remember what it was like - and I remember being in that same space. We all need a helping hand time to time. And if you were so privileged, then you know how amazing it can be to have just one person listen to you and actually help you - it makes the world of difference. I obtained my bachelor of science degree at Texas A&M, a Master of Forest Science degree at Yale, and a Ph.D. at George Mason.
