Profile bio

About Ryan Hadenfeld

I love a good challenge. I spent 15 years as a chef before I resolved to switch gears. After graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor's in Actuarial Science, I began a career as an analyst in the insurance industry which turned out to be a crash course in data querying and analysis with big insurance data. As it turns out I really like working with data. I became proficient in SAS and SQL (and am currently teaching myself Python) and the days that I get to dig into data to help solve business problems are the best days. But my sights are set higher. I want to continue to grow my skills and help make the world a better place through informed data-based decisions and problem-solving.Outside of work, I love to travel, listen to music, and of course, cook, all while spending time with my family.

Listed skills include Time Management, Rstudio, Organizational Effectiveness, Teaching, and 2 others.

In this position, I still continue to maintain my analyst responsibilities, and continue to be a leader for my department by taking on further leadership roles, and serving as a liaison with other departments. As a Senior Pricing Analyst, I took on more responsibility, and assisted with more complicated requests. I also assumed a leadership role in the department. I was already mentoring several of our newer analysts, and I took those sessions and transformed it into a series of training documentation and videos, aimed at teaching the basics of SAS and SQL programming to our newer analysts to perform their job well. I began to take on more complicated data requests, including building reports that combined various metrics into comprehensive reports. I also created a simple model using insurance sales data that categorized agents by their typical insureds' behavior, which was used for both monitoring activity and pricing decisions. In addition to my current rate revision responsibilities, I performed a few rate revisions of ever increasing complexity. For example, as the analyst for the state of WA when the emergency order was issued by Insurance Commissioner Kreidler to remove credit from all PPA insurance programs. I was responsible for figuring out how to effectively remove credit from our PPA rating algorithms and to re-set the base rates properly. I also wrote code to estimate the rate impact of upgrading some underlying insurance models. Show less
