I've lead a Site Reliability team in Apple's Internet Software & Services organization for the past five years. I have a breadth of experience in operating systems and industry standard software and hardware. I excel in automating processes, securing infrastructure, managing network storage, creating efficiency, documentation and creating tools to minimize downtime. In my tenure at Apple, I've played key roles in the initial launch of iCloud, the iCloud content backing store for photos and documents, internal support tools and iWork for iCloud. Focus areas during this time included automating server provisioning, configuration management and data store configuration. I've been responsible for purchasing millions of dollars of server infrastructure. For the Internet Services Operations team, including iCloud, iTunes, Maps, and Device Services, my team is responsible for all aspects of site reliability for Principal services, Application software orchestration and Application infrastructure logging. DNS, LDAP, DHCP, PXE, Puppet, our CMDB and other internal services are our primary area of responsibility. Application software orchestration includes responsibility for multiple internally built application software delivery and instance management platforms. These tools are written in Java, Bash and Python and use mod_cache, OpenMQ. Our team is responsible for ensuring that these tools stay performant and available for all client teams accessing them. Focus areas for this category including increasing the robustness of our locally installed software delivery platform and refining one of our current Java based orchestration platforms. Application services logging at Apple is a significant undertaking with more than twenty five clusters and thousands of machines. My team is responsible for all aspects of data flow from individual application servers to logging ingestors, aggregators to short term storage and then compression and archival to mid and longer term storage. Additionally, we ensure the data presentation and consumption is performant and accessible for our customers. Key focus areas of my team in this area are standardizing our support and configuration model across different properties, and building out the next generation of log aggregation and management which will scale with the massive growth of our infrastructure.
