About Ryan Hupe, Phd

During my career I have flown experiments to the edge of space, run war gaming exercises with multiple branches of the US military, acted as a subject matter expert for NASA projects, and managed integrated product teams for large Agile software development. I have always been drawn to opportunities to learn and to solve difficult problems. After graduating with a PhD in Physics from The Ohio State University, where I designed ultra-high energy comic ray experiments, I joined Boeing's Virtual Warfare Center. There I worked with internal Boeing engineers as well as US warfighters to rapidly understand their hardest problems, develop solutions to them, and then train others with the result. Some of my favorite moments during this time was learning with my customers and earning their trust by solving not only there current problem, but the next one. It was during this time that I discovered my love of leading expert teams of highly capable people. This interest was furthered when I was selected for the Leadership NeXt (LX) program in 2021, of which only 100 members were selected that year. During this two year program, I focused on learning and leading, as I took on leadership roles within the program within the first two months. At the end of this program, I challenged myself with a systems engineering role working with executive leadership within the company on a proposal team. Since then I have returned to software, but in an effort to continue to grow and challenge myself, I took on a software product manager position. Here I learned how to manage large teams of software engineers, scrum teams, and release trains. Connect with me if you're interested in discussing how I can help you and your customers solve their problems.

  • The Ohio State University
Postdoctoral Researcher - Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (Anita) Experiment
The Ohio State University Jan 2016 - Jul 2016
    Columbus, Ohio Area
Continuing my graduate work in developing improved triggering systems for the Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA) experiment. I simulate, design, build, program, and test custom electronics designed for low power, high sample rate radio signal processing and digitization for use during high altitude experiments. This project also requires extensive analysis of large data sets utilizing linear regression and least mean square techniques. Ultimately, my work allowed an increase in sensitivity by a factor of 5. This improvement could allow the ANITA experiment to add more scientific data than all previous ANITA experiments combined.
