Working for Imerys as a Process Engineer, my major objectives for my summer project were to reduce downtime levels in the Celpure plant, increase the effectiveness of Preventative Maintenance plans, and implement a pump monitoring system to track wear and predict failure. The experience was unique from previous internships as I was working on optimizing a continuous process for a sold-out product where every minute of downtime costs the plant thousands of dollars. With the projected 10% reduction of downtime in 3 major failure points in the plant, my work lead to annual savings of $124,000 for the Celpure plant.

I worked with David Anderson at the Spallation Neutron Source Team to develop a 3D Printer for use in neutron scattering experiments. Aspects of my project included creating a full CAD model of a common 3D printer and designing an enclosure for optimum heat containment. Then, I replaced the electronics package and rewired the printer to use a high temperature extruder which required modifying electrical components and modifying the Arduino code that controls the printer.
