Springfield, Missouri Area

I am responsible for the network and systems at 4 geographically separate locations, as well as a co-location in the BlueBird Underground. We have over 200 employees, and run Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. We are a VMware shop, supporting 10 hosts and over 100 guests. Each physical location has dedicated Internet services for outbound traffic, in additional to an MPLS link supplied by Windstream between each site for site-to-site traffic.

I provide technical support across all 10 buildings in the district. I also assist in network planning and projects across the district, including a migration from a Cisco to Meraki WiFi infrastructure, as well as security enhancements and system administration. I am also a Google Apps Certified Administrator.

Springfield, Missouri Area

This is a wide-ranging position as I am the sole department member and am responsible for all IT related functions. I manage a base of 75+ users and multiple servers covering a multi-building campus and a branch office in downtown Springfield. I handle all server and network administration duties as well as end user support. I am responsible for all system backups, web presence, internal communications, and phone system management. This network contains one primary file server, an Exchange 2010 server, 2 primary SQL databases, with plans to introduce a SharePoint 2010 server, as well as an in-process upgrade of all capable machines to Windows 7 and Office 2010. I have completed several major enhancement projects, such as obtaining faster and less expensive voice and data service by switching from AT&T to Windstream (formerly Nuvox), resulting in enough money saved to pay for a new Avaya phone system that covers the entire campus. Other enhancement projects include upgrading our email server to Exchange 2010 and brining in new Windows Server 2008 Domain Controllers to use for an Active Directory network infrastructure. This allows for better management of network resources by utilizing DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, WSUS, and more. I am on-call at all times to handle emergencies and have the ability to connect remotely for administrative tasks as needed. I handle all end user training, procurement, and vendor relations.

Involved in a broad scope of activities, including server and workstation maintenance, installation, configuration, and user training. Duties involved not only network and systems administration, but also included all end user support and duties as outlined in my previous role as Desktop Support Technician. Other duties included monitoring and configuring system backups, automated processes, and troubleshooting issues with network and mixed digital and VOIP phone system. I was responsible for administering a network of approximately 24 servers, containing four primary SQL servers, three domain controllers (one in a remote office), three primary file servers, an Exchange 2003 Server, an FTP server, a mixture of Windows and Linux web servers, a small handful of virtualized servers using VMware, in addition to a SharePoint 2007 server, as well as 100+ workstations and 10+ thin clients. I was responsible for managing Windows 2000, XP and Vista workstations and laptops, an Active Directory environment which included Group Policy, DNS and DHCP, Wireless applications, remote users, VPN, Windows Server NT, 2000 and 2003, a VOIP phone system, several backup systems, and SonicWALL equipment, including two firewalls, email security hardware, and the CDP backup solution. I was also responsible for remotely monitoring the system when not physically present in either the Aurora or Springfield locations.

My responsibilities in this role included end user support, outside customer support, and troubleshooting all desktop PC hardware and software. I also trained employees on using the various applications used by the company. In addition, I built new systems for users as needed or when purchased in an upgrade. I had to transfer files and settings for various applications over the new machines as well as perform testing to ensure proper operation prior to delivery. I acted as the liaison between the IT Department and the internal customers, providing the technical information to the IT Department and the solutions to the end users. Good communication skills and the ability to develop a positive rapport with the other departments was of paramount importance in this role.
