2017 Engine Team Lead for a student-organized group which designs and builds a single seat formula-style race car from the ground up each year. As a lead I had the full end-to-end responsibility to set goals, direct, and guide members through seven design projects. Improvements in design and manufacturing processes allowed the team to stay competitive with the top teams from all over the world at the FSAE Lincoln and FSG Germany competitions. • Design improvements and developments earned the team 19th place out of one hundred in Germany.• Major Accomplishments - Optimized drivetrain to accomplish 30% horsepower gain, zero engine mechanical failures, reduced engine removal time by 7%, and developed 3D-printed throttle body (reduced weight by 50% compared to the previous unit).• Project Oversight - Ensured sound use of mechanics, materials, tolerance stack-ups, manufacturability, serviceability, and quality management.• System Projects - Engine development, exhaust, fuel, intake, pedal tray, shifting, and throttle body.• Innovative Problem Solving - Implemented the use of a soluble 3D printed mold to create a one-piece carbon fiber plenum improving strength and reducing weight. Omitted internal oil reservoir by innovatively rerouting oil to an external oil tank, improving oil pressure. • Engine Building & Vehicle Maintenance - Provided on/off track service and maintenance for all engine team systems including, data logging, and engine tuning. • FSAE competition driver - Competed in 22km endurance, 1km autocross, and skid pad.
