About Ryan Jay Silva, Phd

Ryan Jay Silva, Phd is a Chief of Operations, Cyber at U.S. Space Command. Colleagues describe them as "I had the privilege of working with Ryan in different capacities over the course of four years (2010-2014) at the Air Force Academy. When we both arrived to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as new instructors in 2010, Ryan was assigned to my division for the first year. The department quickly recognized his excellence in the classroom and amazing connection with the cadets and he was promoted to the Director of Students (aka lead advisor) the following year. This position had normally been filled by seasoned instructors (i.e., Lt Col) in the past, but Ryan took the role head-on as a junior Captain and hit a home run. In 2012, I was promoted to Deputy Department Head, and as a result, I had the privilege of being his de facto supervisor on a number of occasions in the front office. As the Trusted Advisor with insight into cadet feedback, I saw Ryan’s name at the top of the instructor ratings every semester. It didn’t matter the course or section, he connected with the cadets, and they loved his energy and ability to facilitate learning in the classroom. Outside of the classroom, Ryan excelled in a number of capacities – most notably, he was the Officer-in-Charge of the Marathon Club and he started the first-ever Falcon 50 (mile race) on the Air Force Academy grounds, which grew to nearly 300 participants in just a couple of years. During one of his Marathon Club trips, he ensured the safety of all cadets involved in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon terrorist bombing in 2013. For these accomplishments and many more (I’ve not even touched his contributions to cadet research), he won the 2013 HENAAC (now called Great Minds in STEM) Award for Most Promising Engineer. Ryan is a brilliant engineer with a merry personality and amazing energy; he’s going to be very successful in the future! I strongly recommend him for any vital government, contractor, or academia positions, and I’d be honored to work with him again in the future. "
