Joined the team when main product was in the middle of tooling (for injection molding and progressive dies). I evaluated the design in detail and found a number of shortcomings that impacted reliability and proposed fixes for them. Also proposed a simple change to a DC receptacle that doubled the number of contacts for 100% more redundancy. Changes were approved and in various stages of implementation.2. Showed that we stood to save up to 15% of mechanical BOM cost by changing thermal management strategy by 1) eliminating a heat sink and 2) optimizing the sizing of an expensive thermal pad from as low as 80% to 97% material yield.3. Other achievements include organizing a mechanical database and setting it up for regular back ups, resurrected revision controls, detailed drawings of components up through top level assemblies, designed a surge protection device (SPD) that supplements the main product, and approval and bring up of production line equipment.

IEC IP Meter: End to end responsibility of mechanical design for smart meter, starting from marketing requirements document (MRD). This product piggy-backs released smart meter. Houses 2 PCBA's, including RF antenna. Included re-styling complex ID surfaces of master model, mechanical architecture for 2 product sizes, detailed design, all drawings, prototype builds, DFx reviews, and tooling release. Utilized IDF for rapid ECAD<-->MCAD concurrent development. Assembly uses snaps only, yet separable for service. Survives 30" drop onto concrete.2. Invented cotter spring clip that requires no tools to install and reduces installation time by 60% (from 108 seconds to less than 40 seconds). Also would lead to estimated material savings of $24k/year from this component alone. Patent filed and granted. 3. End to end responsibility for ANSI IP Meter mechanical development from MRD to production release. Followed 3-D master model constraints, Smart meter had to enclose up to 6 PCBA's of multiple release configurations, 3 RF radios (one that is field-replaceable), 3 levels of tamper detection, with materials that had to survive stringent fire retardancy standards and UV resistance, resist rain and dust intrusion, as well as extreme temperatures (-40C to +75C) and tested to exceed a 10-year product life. Utilized IDF for rapid ECAD<-->MCAD concurrent development. Concept to pilot production in 9 months. It was the most challenging product for the company at the time.

Manage applications engineering team to design products that incorporate the benefits of IOI into our customers' designs. Manage project timelines and deliverables. Manage relationship with vendors. Support our sales staff and do technical presentations to customers.Some Achievement Highlights (spanning all 3 titles):1. One U.S. patent granted, 4 U.S. patents pending on use of IOI technology on sheet metal design.2. Re-conceptualized a name brand washing machine structural base and motor mount from current production assembly of 13 parts and 39 spot welds to 1 part and 10 spot welds.3. Forming a rocking chair from one sheet of laser-cut aluminum (yes, bending sheet metal on a curve).4. Conducted multiple experiments to show the strength, viability, and accuracy of sheet metal behavior using IOI technology.

I worked with the CTO and VP of Engineering on the characterization of our technology at IOI-- test, measure, and predict the behavior of sheet metal when IOI technology is applied to it, across various types of metals. In turn, this knowledge is fed into software that automates the application of our technology. I also train applications engineers on the use of our technology in design applications, educate and interface with our customers on the use of our technology in their products, and support our sales staff in technical presentations. Another important aspect of my job is in developing new ways to apply our technology, and to come up with innovation that expands our patent portfolio. (My name is on 5 patents/pending, with 1 granted so far.)

Design and manufacturer of semiconductor wafer cleaning capital equipment. I was responsible for redesigning subsystems to reduce costs and increase reliability. On one project, I redesigned to consolidate features of 7 different configurations into one, making it much easier to manage costs, improve manufacturability, as well as system reliability. Ontrak was acquired by Lam Research in July 1998.
