My name is Ryan Martinez and I have lived my life determined to be the best version of myself possible. After taking a discovery flight in 2011 when I was 17 years old, I made sure everything I did was moving myself closer to the goal of being a pilot: education, pilot training, and the ability to afford such education and training.I joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 2014 to be able to put myself through college at Washington State University. During my time in the army, I was driven to perform my duties to the very best of my ability and push myself beyond what I thought I was capable of. This mindset allowed me to earn many awards throughout my career including a certificate of achievement in Basic Combat Training, an additional Certificate of Achievement plus an Army Achievement Medal in Advanced Individual Training, and graduation on the Commandant's List in Warrior Leader Course. I retired with an Honorable Discharge at the Rank of Sergeant in 2019 and fully separated from Inactive Ready Reserves in 2021.At Washington State University, I held myself to the same standard as I did in the military and pushed myself to give back to the university by serving as a Color Guard in the university's U.S. Army ROTC Program. As a Color Guard, I would work in collaboration with my peers to provide flag service at formal events such as Veteran's Day marches and memorial services and other events such as college sporting events. Additionally, on a rotational basis with my peers, I would present and retreat the American flag at the University's main flag pole that needed to occur each day.During my second year at university, I began my training as a student pilot to get my pilot's license and achieved my goal in 2017 at Galvin Flying at Boeing Field in Seattle, WA. After finishing college I continued my training with ATP Flight School's accelerated program and became a Certified Flight Instructor in 2021. During this phase of training I consistently scored above average on my performance reviews thanks to the help of amazing instructors that helped set the example of the type of instructor I want to be.
