This experience underscores my deep commitment to social justice, the protection of civil rights, and the relentless pursuit of fairness. As an Ed.D. candidate in Educational Leadership for Social Equity, I applied a critical, socio-political lens to my teaching of Language Arts and Social Studies at De La Salle Academy. My curriculum emphasized cultural responsiveness, intersectionality, and the socio-political contexts that shape students' lives. With a diverse student body, primarily composed of Latinx students, I aimed to elevate their voices by fostering critical dialogue about systemic inequities and encouraging students to connect their personal experiences with broader social justice movements.However, the administration's approach was often at odds with the needs of the students. A stark example of this disconnect occurred during the World Cup. Despite the academy's 95% Latinx student population, students were prohibited from cheering for their respective national teams—a policy that stifled cultural expression and pride. This silencing reflected a broader resistance to embracing and celebrating the cultural identities of the student body. It became clear that the school needed a more inclusive and liberating educational approach, one that respected students' socio-cultural backgrounds.Although my time at De La Salle Academy was brief due to philosophical differences with the administration’s pedagogical approach, the experience strengthened my commitment to creating educational environments that not only recognize but actively challenge the systems of oppression affecting our students. I remain dedicated to the belief that education should be a tool for liberation, and I will continue this work in spaces that value critical race theory and the development of self-authorship in students.

During my seven years with the United States Marine Corps, I took on several critical roles that shaped my career and honed my leadership skills. As a Corporal in 2/24 Echo Company, I was at the forefront of some of the most challenging operations in the Triangle of Death during 2004. Leading a fireteam in such a volatile environment required not only tactical expertise but also the ability to remain calm under pressure. We conducted numerous patrols, raids, and security missions, where every decision could mean the difference between life and death.In 2006, I advanced to leading a personal security detail for high-value personnel within the 1st Battalion, 14th Marines, a heavy artillery and military police unit based out of Alameda, California. This role required meticulous planning and rapid decision-making in unpredictable combat zones. Beyond mission execution, I mentored junior Marines, instilling discipline, integrity, and leadership. My team's success was not just in the field but in their personal development, ensuring they were prepared for the significant challenges we faced during operations.
