• Performed isocyanate/polyol chemistry to formulate polyurethane bouncy balls through a partnership with the Willamette Valley Company (WVCO).
• Successfully met all project goals by creating 4 aesthetically pleasing polyurethane bouncy balls each with a desired rebound percentage and hardness (Shore A or D).
• Characterized the elasticity of each ball by performing dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) to observe the storage and loss modulus at room temperature.
• Added excess isocyanate during the formulation process after Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results showed that the polyols weren’t fully reacting due to the interaction between the isocyanates and H2O.

• Collaboratively designed a TCES system that consisted of a strontium bromide and graphite composite in order to utilize the energy from a hot wastewater stream at the Carty Power Plant in Boardman, Oregon.
• Developed 3D CAD models of the charging and discharging vessels in Autodesk Fusion 360, effectively combating corrosion issues within salt hydrates by using metals like Hastelloy C and Titanium.
• Determined that the design resulted in $48,000 in annual savings by performing material and energy balances to calculate the amount of usable heat produced.
• Constructed piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) with the necessary pressure relief valves and temperature transmitters to prevent vessel explosion and operator injury.
• Presented work at the 2021 Virtual Engineering Expo to educate high school students and industry partners on the importance of using TCES systems to tackle energy demand issues.
