About Ryan Carlino
I am a believer in the power of good government. I decided to pursue a career in public policy after volunteering with a harm reduction outreach organization where I worked with clients who had been harmed and failed by government systems: public benefits, health care, housing, and criminal justice. This experience convinced me that I wanted to create impact by working to address these issues at a systemic level.I pursued a Master of Public Affairs degree at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas-Austin where I focused on state and local government administration, criminal justice policy, economics, and research. I developed robust skills and expertise in policy analysis and writing, public finance, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and strategic communications. I worked as an Assistant Committee Clerk with the Texas House of Representatives during the 2019 Legislative Session, which gave me a deep understanding of "how the sausage is made" in state policy. I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of government entities, community-based organizations and advocacy groups, and private companies in the pursuit of good government and equitable policy. From developing surveys on behavioral health services in Austin to conducting research on policing issues to analyzing data on racial/ethnic disparities in criminal justice systems, I have built a career at the intersection of policy, research, strategic communications, and data.
Listed skills include Nonprofits, Fundraising, Community Organizing, Community Outreach, and 26 others.
