I am in the People Business. Everything I have and will do centers around "us." After years in on and off air media I realized ESPN or even QVC were not going to call. It was time to reinvent myself and go to grad school. At the ripe-old age of 35 I became Thornton Mellon...without the money or access to Oingo Boingo. At 39, I did it again. Both times I sought to not-only become better educated, but also better-prepared to positively impact society. "Going live" came easy to me. It is why I continue to be a freelance broadcaster. Speaking in front of large groups of people comes easy to me. I won my first public speaking contest in 8th grade. I love to write, create, perform, and teach. I love to be a front-facing spokesperson. Fundraising is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Working with those who want to impact society in meaningful ways is awe-inspiring. I served the City of Niles as a Councilman at large, also serving as president pro tem. Being part of the resurgence of a city and lead it out of Fiscal Emergency was immensely rewarding. Learning to work with local, state, and federal officials made me a better leader and communicator in all facets of life.I'm a conundrum: Fiercely independent, with a desire to be a part of larger groups. Sit me alone in a room or with one other person and I'll thrive. But don't keep the door shut! I've proven adaptable at all stages of my life and career, as I do not want to be left behind. I work hard, but certainly work to live. Humor, kindness, and respect are essentials in my life. Specialties: Fundraising, broadcasting, media relations, public relations, relationship building, leadership, public speaking, emceeing, event planning, public service, teaching, interviewing, writing, networking, career counseling, radio, television, producing, political campaigning.
