Currently I work at a steaming rack with Caltrax inc. In this position I connect hoses to valves for steaming, flareing and other various requirements. I remove valves and apply valves to cars and I do interior inspections. I am in training to become a valve technician which entails the disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of Angle valves, outlet valves, inlet valves and safety valves. Inspecting railcars has made me very detail orientated due to the constant changing environment of rules and customer specific procedures I have to follow on a day to day basis. I inspect cars to the standards of the Association of American Railroads, the Federal Railroad Administration and Transport Canada. I inspect cars to the standards of the Association of American Railroads, the Federal Railroad Administration and Transport Canada. My inspections include: Inbound inspection- Inspecting cars for their bad order reason and completing a thorough inspection of the car for further deficient items.In process Inspection- Oversight of repairs as they are being completed, making sure everything is meeting or exceeding government and customer standards.Outbound Inspection- A final inspection of the rail car that includes a review of all documents and all jobs, a completion of any final documents and an application of seals to all openings of the car.I am also qualified to do thickness tests and visual weld inspections on tank cars that require qualification. My other duties include maintaining all calibration certificates through out the facility, calibrating various gauges and updating records and identification of all of the gauges through out the facility. During my time as a conductor I worked in many different places and spent time away from home for up to a day at a time. I took road trips to field BC and Red Deer, working anywhere from six to twelve hours at a time. I spent time as a foreman and a helper switching cars in Calgary's yard and servicing various customers on industrial spurs around Calgary. I was on call for most of my career at CP Rail and I am used to working at all times of the day and night.
