As I made my way through my bachelor's degree while studying at McGill University, I started to fall in love with psychological research while volunteering in a number of research labs. Starting as a research assistant, I collected data in McGill undergraduate lecture halls for a study that examined (mal)adaptive coping mechanisms used by first-year students. Wanting to take the next step and dive deeper into research, I was accepted into an undergraduate thesis course where I examined emotion-regulation strategies in perfectionistic individuals. The following year, I was offered a position to be the research coordinator of the Dunkley Lab as part of my masters degree. In this new role, I designed, implemented, and oversaw two large-scale research studies. Further, I was responsible for training undergraduate students who later helped with data collection. My masters thesis focused on examining the role of mindfulness and self-compassion in buffering anxiety and depressive symptoms in perfectionistic individuals. This study was later published in Behavior Research and Therapy (BRAT), a scientific journal with an impact factor of 4.5. Looking to gain some personal and work experience outside of university and Canada, I began working as an English Language Arts High School Teacher at Centro Educativo Piaget, a private high school, in Merida, Mexico.Once returning to Montreal, I worked in the Youth Mental Health and Technology Lab under the direction of Dr. Shalini Lal. In this position, I was primarily involved with the HoryzonsCa intervention project which is an online, moderated, social networking platform for young people recovering from a first-episode of psychosis. On the clinical side of the project, I worked as a clinical moderator where I provided support to participants and helped tailor the intervention to their specific needs. On the research side, I analyzed and was involved in the dissemination of qualitative research investigating of the pilot phase of the HoryzonsCa project. In Fall 2022, I returned to McGill University to start my doctorate in clinical psychology in the Dunkley Personality Lab where I plan on continuing the work I started during my Master's degree. Stay tuned for more updates!
