Lab Manager for Profiles of Working Memory and Word Learning for Educational Research (POWWER) project grant under Child Language and Literacy Lab (CHILLL) at Arizona State University, Department of Speech and Hearing SciencePOWWER was a five-year project funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), seeking to understand the deficits underlying poor word learning, with a goal of developing effective interventions in education. Testing involved a fun, computerized, game-based comprehensive working memory battery for children that assesses visual, spatial, auditory, and central executive working memory functions in relation to children’s word learning ability. Five groups of second graders participated: children with typical development who speak English or Spanish as their primary language, children with dyslexia, children with specific language impairment, and children with dyslexia and specific language impairment.
