I lead and participate in externally funded research projects with a focus on Geospatial data analysis, and participate in NATO research task groups focused on the Geospatial data needs for current and future mobility modeling efforts. Additionally, I manage a team of research assistants and GIS specialists working on sponsored projects, and administer the Enterprise GIS Infrastructure hosted at the Geospatial Research Facility at Michigan Tech. Our team supports the use of Geospatial data and applications for research and teaching at Michigan Tech and our Centers and Institutes. I specialize in leading the development of Enterprise GIS Applications and work with researchers, faculty, students and research staff to develop enterprise geodatabases and web-based mapping applications.I'm particularly interested in the Great Lakes, underwater geospatial data collection, and coastal ecology and communities.

At PAQ I led the Analytics Group and develop GIS and Web-based applications for several research and education projects, mostly focused around agriculture, and served as the CIO. As GIS Developer, I managed other GIS staff, led the daily operations of the Analytics group, and created web-based GIS applications and web services using PHP, PostGIS, JavaScript and OpenLayers. I also built GIS tools and applications using Python, ArcGIS and C# to automate spatial analysis and mapping procedures, and developed complex, specialized analyses using GIS and SQL databases. We worked extensively with Agronomists and Scientists to develop methods of analysis and prediction and executed those methods using GIS & Web technologies. We also provided real-time mapping and operations support while clients are working in the field.As CIO, I worked with our IT Administrator and provided direction in the administration of on-site and cloud-based Web, File, Database and Email servers running PAQ's custom Content Management System and Learning Management Systems.

Served as the field technician for the Upper Sangamon River Watershed and Lake Decatur Watershed studies and Provided GIS & database support to the Watershed Science Center. Performed site visits throughout East-Central IL and collected water samples, made field observations, performed discharge measurements and maintained automatic samplers and data loggers.Performed programming, maintenance, repair, and install of gaging station structures and electronics throughout Illinois.

As Watershed Coordinator I coordinated the Upper Salt Fork River Watershed Steering Committee and helped guide the application of the Watershed Management Plan that had been developed. I worked to coordinate committee meetings, provide updates on implementation progress, assist in grant writing, perform GIS analysis and map production, and develop methods and procedures to help the implementation of the management plan. I worked with local scientists, engineers, farmers and agronomists who volunteered to work together to facilitate the application of the management plan and worked with the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District and the University of Illinois Department of Natural Resources - Environmental Sciences to develop a volunteer water quality monitoring network currently in place on the Upper Salt Fork River.

Worked at the DOT providing Map production and GIS development services. I worked with the Information Services Group and assisted several departments with map production, database development, field inventories, and planning. A large part of my work there involved integrating the existing data into more accessible digital formats that could be easily queried, mapped, and updated. I worked with the Lake County IT department to develop a web-based construction information map and website and developed several field data collection applications for ArcPad.

Interned with Park Administrators and Biologist to learn about Park Management, Prairie Restoration practices and Ecology. Led a group of 3 – 5 workers performing restoration efforts on a 300 acre prairie and ~10 acres of woodland. Assisted park guests and participated in maintenance and construction projects, including the construction of a new riverside park.
