Radiation Safety Officer
CurrentRadiation and Laser Safety Officer responsible for four divisions (43 facilities) of ATK located in three states. Facilities include: linear accelerators, low energy X-Ray systems, radiation producing lab equipment, radioactive material (NORM and NARM), 1 medical clinic, 150 monitored radiation workers, and all classes of lasers. Conduct, schedule, and participate in the Radiation Safety Advisory Committee (RSAC) meetings as a member. Develop and implement new safety programs as well as maintain and modify current ones. Audits facilities, records, and radiation workers for compliance to regulations and quality control. Teach training classes and oversee the content and delivery of training. Maintain all licenses and registrations with state agencies and ensure all programs are in compliance with regulations. Proficient in the use and theory of various types of survey instruments and personal monitoring equipment. Utilize and teach the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) concept. Leak test sealed sources. Inspect and survey all radiation producing equipment/facilities. Develop and write work instructions/procedures. In pursuit of NRRPT certification.
