Ryan's transformative leadership roles in both consulting and industry has enabled him to guide enterprises and governments alike through some of the most notable public cloud transformations to-date. From implementing cutting-edge cloud-native platforms in regulated Fortune 100 companies to assembling highly-effective cloud enablement and DevOps teams from scratch, Ryan's dedication to "distributed enablement" drives impactful business outcomes at scale.Throughout his career, Ryan has earned the trust of associates, colleagues, and peers by implementing modern organizational structures, philosophies, and leadership techniques at the heart of every transformation initiative he spearheads. His early successes included pioneering infrastructure architectures using emerging virtualization technology for CPU-intensive geospatial software in a pre-cloud era. This led him to co-found a specialized cloud company focused on addressing challenges for CPU-bound software using the latest infrastructure, network, and storage technologies as cloud computing giants like AWS emerged. As AWS gained prominence, Ryan joined them to assist global enterprises and government organizations in scaling by pioneering infrastructure-as-code practices. His tenure at Nationwide exemplified his prowess, where as he was named to lead a Board of Director's level initiative to move rapidly to public cloud. He responded by growing team to over 60 engineers, combining it with an existing DevOps Platform team, establishing a CSA-compliant cloud landing zone, and successfully initiating migration of over 100 applications to AWS... all within the first 18 months. Ryan's continued leadership over his remaining tenure was instrumental in making Nationwide's cloud journey operational, lasting, and transformative as it was named a model "Lighthouse Account" by AWS.Subsequently, Ryan leveraged these learnings from industry back into consulting and assumed the role of COO at Effectual, where he led consulting and managed services operations. Effectual experienced significant growth under his leadership, including 50% year-over-year increases and a Private Equity exit, attributed largely to their focus on delivering an exceptional customer experience, rather than just solutions or talent, setting them apart from competitors.2011 Ziff-Davis Cloud Enabler of the Year award winner2014, 2016, & 2017 AWS re:Invent session speaker2019, 2020, & 2022 AWS re:Invent Executive Summit session speaker

Vp, Public Cloud Infrastructure, Devops PlatformNationwide Jan 2018 - Aug 2021UsExecutive leader of Nationwide’s Public Cloud Transformation program, DevOps Platform, FinOps Operations, and SRE initiatives. Using application migration mechanisms designed by Ryan’s team, including Cloud Migration Parties, Cloud Clinics, and mob programming, Nationwide’s first year of public cloud migrations resulted in over 300 applications starting their journey, 100 applications cutover to Production; plus, another 65 new applications were built on the platform. Momentum continued through the global pandemic and work-from-home orders in 2020, totaling an additional 120 applications migrated; including many mission-critical. In less than 3 years, led Nationwide to build a compliant, developer-friendly, everything-as-code cloud platform and migrated more than 300 Production applications, many of which are core business critical. Saving on average 30% per application migrated, while enjoying better scalability and performance… success was no accident. Credit a custom designed diagnostic checkpoint in the migration process to ensure maximum value for every migration. And, while we've had missteps and pivots, many of the mechanisms, technologies, and processes we’ve created are now enterprise-proven and reusable across other capabilities. In that spirit, I regularly host short video topics and a podcast sharing our experiences. -
