Working as team lead and developer for a small team with 5 developers excluding myself, 1 QA and 1 BA. Our team of developers are responsible for customer cases and the company's backend system. We are also often asked to contribute with our knowledge or manpower on other initiatives, and we are known for fast deliveries. We like to solve the problems - hopefully with a simple solution, but we are not afraid of complexity if needed. I think we are good at finding the right tool for the job.

China

One year stationed in China with my whole family - working on technical and cultural challenges in connection with starting up a Chinese branch of Abax. I was sent as a cultural ambassador and a technical representative. We also worked on hiring software developers for our office.

This period in Abax was a compromise between developing a new customer facing web application to replace an old implementation that had become to cumbersome to work with and also upgrading the back-end logic to make it more modular and clean. I love getting my hands really dirty and fixing stuff that might dishearten other developers.

Worked as a consultant on several different projects. During this time I transitioned from Java to C# as main development language. Lots of experience with different organizations and approaches to development. From old projects that were only to be maintained to large government projects to very small green field projects. An important lesson from this period was the perspectives to take into account when deciding on a strategy for a project. In the end I ended up in a work place that I did not want to leave anytime soon, and started working at Abax full time.

Oslo Area, Norway

Ported parts of an old application to a new stack as a proof of concept. The old application had become expensive to maintain. The new stack dynamically switched between 3 different old databases on different servers and 1 new database using Hibernate. The new stack would register and present data in a web user interface with security roles and login, and allow a user to bring his session from the old to the new web application and vice versa without logging in again.I also held courses on new technology for co-workers. I used the new technology stack as an illustration on how to use the technologies effectively, with focus on easy unit testing.

Converting a large and complex desktop application to a web application. Maven2, MSSQL, Hibernate, Spring, JSF, Richfaces, Javascript, XHTML, Eclipse, Tomcat, Jetty are the core technologies used. Since I was the only programmer assigned to this project for most of the project's duration, I gained a lot of experience with these core technologies.

My first real job as a developer. I worked with creating internal tools for automating design and specification of building schematics to be able to easily configure buildings for one of Norway's largest contractors (Selvaag). The tools were developed as web tools - using frameworks like e.g. Struts. The backend code was written in Java, and I worked on both frontend web (CSS, javascript, etc) and the backend code using Java with a relational database for storage.
