On the 2023 Summer Mission to San Diego hosted by Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ), I served as a student staff on the mission to lead alongside full-time Cru staff to mentor five college students 1-on-1, organize events and activities for women on the mission to connect and learn more about God’s heart for them, and worked with Cru staff to build knowledge of effective leadership. Throughout this experience, I was able to foster this skills to teach and create lessons that helped to develop the personal growth of college students, learn how to manage meetings, budgeting, and digital graphics, and created events for students to engage with the Bible and deep community.

During this internship, our goal was to help cultivate student-led Cru (Campus Crusaders for Christ) movements on campuses that don’t currently have one and gain more freshman on campuses that currently support a Cru movement by utilizing Instagram as a form of connection. I managed 11 Instagram accounts of different colleges and spend a lot of time cultivating skills through online communication to reach out to students that might be interested with a survey and managing the results of these surveys to gauge the next steps in the follow up process, all the while balancing the limits of Instagram’s algorithm. I also got the opportunity to exercise leadership and efficient communication by setting up Zoom meetings with the interested students of each campus to hear more about their spiritual background and to give them the vision of Cru as well as the logistics of starting a Cru movement on their campus alongside another Cru coach. I was also able to create graphics for each of these accounts in order to promote the main messages, opportunities, and real experiences of students involved with Cru on their campus.
