My name is Róisín Anne Grant. I graduated secondary school in the midst of the pandemic, and in a flurry of stress, I applied to study Law, Business Management and Political Science at Maynooth University.It was a big mistake. I absolutely knew from the first few classes that this wasn’t a good fit for me at all. I knew that if I had only had the guidance of in-person meetings with my teachers prior to finalising my CAO choices, I would have chosen something that really suited me.So I reapplied to CAO the following year, this time to the Creative Writing course in ITSligo (now ATU Sligo). Due to some traumatic family circumstances I fell hopelessly behind on coursework, so to avoid being politely asked to leave, I ended up transferring halfway through the year into Performing Arts, which I already had some experience in having studied with Sean Lynch’s Mullingar Arts Centre Senior Stage School. Turned out, I found myself bored due to already being familiar with most topics and concepts on the syllabus, and due to the fact that a degree was far too paper-heavy and theoretical without enough room for performance practice. Much to my parents’ disapproval, I left before the commencement of second year, and decided to take both of my passions (writing and acting) and turn them into a career that can’t be defined by a simple Bachelor’s Degree that takes up only one line on my CV. Now I find myself simply itching to get to work as a permanent contributor to the arts, particularly in the performing arts and visual arts industries. Being able to work in a structured administrative position aiding the development of these industries would be a pleasure indeed.Which has brought me here, to LinkedIn.I’m excited to meet you.
