Involves leadership and expertise in reviewing elite performance recommendations from an independent review while providing guidance to management for strategic implementation. As well as, developing elite support staff strategy for immediate and long term athlete progression. This role also includes organisation policies, procedures, risk assessment, commercial and legislative shared responsibilities.

Main role of driving performance standards within Sports Medicine and wider physical performance team. Tasked with the building of sports physio/ sports med department in Ireland first full time WXV centralised program. Progressing sport medicine department in a national calendar that has doubled in size between 2022 and 2023. Developing national support structures and communication systems with UK clubs and Ireland club and interprovincial systems. Performance reviews, injury surveillance and performance trends analysis to inform SM performance direction in conjunction with head coach / performance goals of program. Collaborative MDT working with coaching and physical performance team daily and on specific performance projects. Pivotal in successful turnaround of finishing last at 2023 6Ns to finishing 3rd at 2024 6Ns - securing World Cup qualification and jumping from WXV 3 to WXV 1 tier.

This role involved the strategic management, coordination and on the ground delivery of both physiotherapy and medical services of all athletes in the Womens Irish hockey program. It involved regular international travel with the squad, management team and wider support team including meticulous planning and scheduling of international games, training sessions and recovery sessions in the run up to the most successful World Cup the country has seen in 2018. I was involved in developing recovery procedures, sleep hygiene advice sheets, antidoping training, prehab protocols and self-management strategies. I monitored closely each athletes individual external and internal loading and GPS, along with our sports scientist, during camps and chronically over a period of time. During the World Cup I was involved in daily scheduling, gathering objective markers, mobility sessions, active recovery sessions, physiotherapy treatments/ rehab, training and match cover, antidoping chaperone and meditation/ mindfulness sessions. We were ranked 16th in the World pre World Cup and finished 2nd, securing a silver medal and a new world ranking of 8th.Within my job role at SINI I also deliver services to athletes across a range of other sports including triathlon and para swimming, which I led on within SINI. These athletes compete across an Irish or GB system which has additional challenges.

Involved the strategic management and on the ground delivery of physiotherapy services to national netball athletes based both in Glasgow and overseas by coordinating and supporting regional leads and remotely managing overseas athletes. It also involved working towards performance targets agreed with the wider support team, management team, and the governing bodies. Working closely with all members of the support team, high performance manager and management team was imperative in ensuring effective delivery of the programs. I was responsible for profiling, identifying injury risk, implementing injury prevention strategies, developing recovery strategies, rehabilitation and monitoring load as well as attending training sessions and travel to competition. Within this role I also helped develop and provide physiotherapy and medical services for the Netball Superleague program, which was in its inaugural year. This had the added challenge of budgeting, risk assessments of venues across England and Wales and managing imported athletes with limited contact time to services prior to competition. Within this time period the Scottish Thistles national netball team hit their goals of Commonwealth games qualification 2018 and finished top 3 at Netball Europe 2017. They also went onto to top their group at World Cup Qualifiers. I also worked with athletes across other sports eg. Curling, boxing, snowsports, athletics, cycling.

This post involved the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of a varied complex patient caseload. It was a specialist role where physiotherapy worked closely with clinical specialists and surgeons. It included identifying and organising patients for injection therapy, onward consultant opinions and appropriate imaging. My role expanded to reading X-rays and interpreting results of MRIs, ultrasounds and other scans. It also involved service improvement initiatives and in house training.

Club and Inter county level. Attending training sessions, match day and training camps. Involved in stats collection of injuries and employing preventive strategies. Work closely with MDT utilising information/ stats for injury prevention, performance and rehab. Involved in diagnosis and treatment of acute injuries as well as the management of chronic injuries through season and in the off season.
