For my Ph.D. dissertation, I integrated micro-mechanical, classical inclusion & viscoelastic models, thermodynamic laws and process-constituent relationships to evaluate fundamental mechanical properties of high-temperature woven-fiber polymer composites and relate them to process cycle parameters. I validated the integrated model through testing on composite specimens I manufactured in our lab.■ Designed and set up high-temperature materials testing facility and DAQ system in the mechanical engineering lab (defined component specifications, invited bids from test equipment manufacturers, carried through component selections, integrated components into sub-assemblies/test setups, created software systems to control and automate high-temperature creep/fatigue testing and acquire data).■ Upgraded and re-calibrated an existing computer-controlled compression molding system to manufacture ASTM standard polyimide composite test specimens. Set up in-house vacuum bagging unit and manufactured epoxy/woven-graphite composite specimens. Designed and set up a finishing unit to machine composites without damage for testing.
  • Indian Institute Of Technology, Madras
    Undergraduate Thesis
Indian Institute Of Technology, Madras 1989 - 1990
    Chennai Area, India
For my undergraduate thesis, I developed an AI engine and allied software system to enable computers to learn and use expert mechanical design knowledge. The engine can be used in the design of highly complex mechanical parts. I demonstrated its application through the design a multi-stepped power-train shaft, a process that requires over one hundred design parameters, multiple iterative decision making processes, and uses both established calculation processes and expert heuristics.
