Profile bio

About Su Jin Kim

I am a PhD student at Johns Hopkins University in the Kuchibhotla Laboratory (advisor: Dr. Kishore Kuchibhotla). For my thesis I am examining how auditory-motor associations are represented in the central auditory system across learning and overtraining in mice. To do this I use two-photon mesoscopic imaging, injected viral fluorescent indicators and optogenetic constructs, and behavioral training. Previously, I was a research technician in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Boston University, where I designed a head implant for micron-scale repeatable head-fixation of mice (advisor: Dr. Ben Scott, see Kim et al., 2022 J Neurosci Methods). Before that I was a Visiting Fellow in the department of Biomedical Engineering, where I examined exploratory behavior and decision making in the rodent whisker system (advisor: Dr. Jason Ritt).Along with research, I am passionate about outreach and education. I believe making education more equitable is a job all of us must undertake, in order to mitigate the discrepancies in performance driven by socioeconomic factors. Thus, I actively tutor students in public schools, and look for opportunities to present my research to public school science classrooms.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Social Media, Research, and 13 others.
