As a special educator and educational psychologist, I use my instructional and psychological knowledge and expertise to provide instruction, advice, and support to learners, families, and colleagues on how best to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of young people. This is accomplished through large and small group instruction, developing and implementing interventions, and providing psychological consultation and collaborative work with educators and families to determine quality person-centered learning for students.My particular interest and passion is in exploring experiences of young adults with autism and anxiety disorders in learning social skills through role-play in live games such as Dungeons & Dragons. Through my dissertation work, entitled “Social Learning Among Autistic Young Adult Table-top Role Players: A Qualitative Study,” I identify 5 key mechanisms inherent in live role-playing games that appear to converge to result in social skills learning and enhanced relationships. I am enthusiastic about developing college-based programs that incorporate these key mechanisms to enhance academic and social performance for learners who struggle with the social aspects of adult life.Additional specialist interests include instructional design, technology in education, and adolescent development.
