About Saadia Bhatty
Saadia Bhatty advises and represent States and private entities on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious international dispute resolution law matters, in particular in international commercial and investment arbitrations, and other public international law matters (such as international treaty drafting and negotiations, and representing states in advisory proceedings before the International Court of Justice). Prior to joining Gide in London, she practiced in the international arbitration and public international law groups of Clyde & Co in London, Chadbourne & Parke in New York and Gide in Paris, where she acted as counsel in investment and commercial arbitration proceedings conducted under the rules of various institutions (ICSID, ICC, HKIAC, LCIA) as well as ad hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL Rules, dealing with the laws of both civil law and common-law jurisdictions (including Algeria, France, Chile, China, Republic of Congo, Gabon, Italy, Switzerland, Sénégal, Morocco, Pakistan, U.S and U.K and Yemen) in particular in the energy, oil & gas, construction and manufacturing sectors, in both English and French.Her experience also includes advising clients on pre-contentious matters including drafting arbitral clauses under various rules (including those of the the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (the OHADA)) and preliminary risk assessments. Before starting her career as an arbitration specialist, Saadia acted as legal counsel for non-governmental organizations and for the Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), where she provided legal advice in particular dealing with development projects in Africa.A graduate from Harvard Law School, Université Paris 1 Sorbonne and the École Normale Supérieure, Saadia lectures in international law in top universities in France, the US and the UK, regularly speaks at conferences in IDR and trains lawyers and government representatives from around the world.She is an active member of several arbitration organizations in Europe, Africa, and South East Asia , the co-host of the influential ArbitrationStation Podcast and the President of the Harvard W3D London Chapter.
