Working as an Editor for a publisher, sitting in my almost perfectly aesthetic cabin, sipping my coffee and reading the first lines of a next bestseller - sounds like a dream to me. And I believe in turning dreams into a reality. I have always loved reading books and the idea of working around books has always intrigued me. I would like to encourage and promote budding authors to build their dreams into realities and always wanted to be a part of an organisation where art is understood, appreciated and created. Although I had a love for books quite early in life, it wasn't until I was in my undergrad that I decided to be an Editor. And during my post-grad was the time I'd taken my first steps into publishing - working as an Editorial Intern at Invincible Publishers, India where my focus was to plan, coordinate, proofread and revise the content of manuscripts before publishing which included Epistolary books, Self-help books, and Academic books. Soon enough, I secured a position as an Editor at iiPublishing, New York, and this was when I acquired hands-on experience whilst working as a Developmental Editor (Substantive Editor)My main responsibilities included - 1. Developing the main plot/content of the novel2. Planning the overall structure3. Making changes in the manuscript to improve the content whilst giving utmost importance to the author's voice and opinions4. Copy-editing the manuscript once the plot holes and filled and the character arcs given, to enhance the overall readability of the manuscript5. Proofreading it before its final publicationI must say working with writers from another country was a challenge to me initially but over time, I started to get better at the job. I learned the art of literature. I realized that a book is an art that will stay forever, even when the rest of the generation has faded away.And now, after having taken my baby steps into publishing, this passion of books has only grown deeper. I know there is certainly a lot to learn, a lot to experience, a lot more problems to solve, a lot more books to work on, and a whole life to build around books. And I'm looking forward to it.
