I am a Plant Breeder with a PhD in Plant Breeding from the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement at the University of Ghana in 2018. I earlier obtained a Bachelor of Agriculture in 2008 and MSc in Plant Breeding in 2012 from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria. I am currently a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Plant Science at the Institute for Agricultural Research of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria. I was the Project Manager (Principal Investigator) for a “Program for Emerging Agricultural Research Leaders” (PEARL) project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation between 2015 to 2020. This project was aimed at the identification of molecular markers and genomic regions associated with cowpea’s performance under limited soil phosphorus.I currently lead the Legumes and Oilseeds research programme at the Institute for Agricultural Research of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria-Nigeria, where I coordinate research works on cowpea, groundnut, castor, jatropha and sunflower. My routine activities involve reviewing projects and proposals submitted to the programme, disbursement and supervision of research funds, outreach activities to showcase results from our research works in the programme to end-users. In my current role, I work with a large team of colleagues across different disciplines, backgrounds, and gender.
