I research the ethical implications of technology, especially in the developing world (Sub-Saharan Africa in particular). I'm interested in creating accessible technical tools and ethical frameworks that can create a better internet and improve society.My other research interests are Artificial Intelligence, BlockChain and Offline Networks.

I helped the newly formed Maps API team build scalable services. In a short time, one of my achievements was transitioning a system of rendering maps from a GPU cluster to a CPU cluster reducing costs by 7x. I also mentored in an internal mentorship program, served on the diversity and inclusion panel and represented Mapbox in the Do No Harm Digital Initiative.

Through funding from the Guardian Project, I have been building an open-source Offline Networking library that makes it easy to discover and interact with nearby devices outside of traditional networks (internet/cellular). This library is inspired by my experiences with poor connectivity and limited access to internet within the African continent. Writing software is an intellectual activity and an artistic expression. As a first engineer at IrisTV I've significantly shaped how Millions of viewers Watch and Discover online media that matches their interests. During this time I managed the Recommendation System, implementing on-the-fly and pre-calculated recommendations, while having our scale jump from 100,000 requests per month to hundreds of millions of requests per month. In addition to the Recommendation System, I've created fast and easy-to-maintain systems for importing video library metadata from the leading Online Video Publishers, and authored features that allow Media Companies unprecedented creative control over the personalization/playlisting of their video libraries (such as having campaigns). As a result Media companies experience more viewers watching their videos (and Ads) for significantly longer periods of time.I've also worked extensively on the design and development of efficient tools, including dockerizing our core services, and created tools to test the quality of recommendations apart from the traditional unit tests -- and kept our response time very low while lowering production costs through optimized code.Python + Ruby + MongoDB + Redis + Lua + Nginx

While at this fast paced and agile financial software company I mainly worked in PHP + MySQL on typical CRUD operations, nothing too fancy.What I learned most from my position was writing complex Business Rules, troubleshooting obscure problems (banking logs can be a pain!), proper Unit Testing and working with a very large codebase.

Spent majority of my time using ASP.NET MVC (C#, SQL Server) to retrofit some old legacy VB code, Excel spreadsheets, and Yes even Microsoft Access databases (yuck).
