Chilvers Coton Initiative Project

As a Language Support Worker my responsibility was to help adult learners understand English to non native speakers by interpreting information in Hindi, Urdu and Gujarati whilst attending adult education courses.

My responsibility included to provide administrative support with the day to day running of a satelite centre providing reception services, assist students by determining who can best provide information needed by the student, providing basic and initial assistance to students with questions about classes, registration, permissions, etc. using established guidelines (information in course catalogs, departmental and college documents, and established policies and procedures).

My responsibility included to work in collaboration with statutory bodies such as the local authorities as well as voluntary and community organisations to provide stimulating and diverse learning opportunities for adults at a specialist project situated in a deprived area. This was phase 1 of a pilot project which assisted in identifying a further need to secure funding of the second phase.
