Executive Board PresidentWalk It Out: Around The World Multicultural/Multi-Identity Fashion Show Aug 2013 - May 2017Iowa City, Iowa AreaIn 2016-17 I led Walk It Out (WIO) as president. Walk It Out: Around the World Multicultural Fashion Show (WIO) is the largest cultural organization at The University of Iowa. Comprised of a 22 person board, 150 models, 10 photographers/videographers, and 30-person support staff, WIO has raised thousands of dollars for the local HIV/AIDS Clinics by selling out the event during my four years. WIO brought polarized identities on campus together. It allowed individuals to explore cultures by appreciation, not appropriation. In the show, performances illustrated prevalent issues, dignity, and breaking stereotypes. It was a beautiful cornucopia of culture and self-love. Prior to holding office as president, I served on the executive board as vice president, directed public relations, and worked as a graphic designer. I also held the roles of LGBTQA director, Africa co-director, and emcee.- Oversaw a $15,000 budget- Restructured the organization's board positions by rewriting the constitution- Directed a lavish fashion show by scoring lighting, cutting music, and planning stage layout- Led over 200 people - Mediated and defused conflicts between members on various levels of the organization - Provided a platform and built a community for minority students to flourish in their cultures on a predominately white campus- Designed over 10 posters, two shirts, a plethora of online marketing material and revamped logo- Showcased 7 cultural/identity groups through music, song, dance, food, and fashion- Incorporated local designers and a pop-up shop where apparel from the show was sold- Conducted conversation summits about race, identity, and culture- Grew professional and personal relationships- Orchestrated models by curating looks, coaching walks, and arranging photo shoots- Worked administratively (i.e., answering emails/phone calls, attending/scheduling weekly meetings, filing, and distributing information)

Cofounder And PresidentVarious Identities Born Equal (Vibe) Aug 2015 - Jan 2017Iowa City, Iowa AreaDue to the lack of support, visibility, and collaboration of diversity organizations on campus, I founded, in conjunction with three other students, Various Identities Born Equal (VIBE). The first mission was to communicate to the administration the plight of diversity organizations and inequalities experienced. Puzzled by the polarization of identities, we designed VIBE to be the first coalition group on campus to bring together the different diversity organizations. Our core ideology highlighted equality for one, was equality for all. - Coauthored constitution, obtained advisors, and secured funding- Became a recognized organization by the University within the first semester of forming - Programmed roundtables for multicultural/multi-identity organizations and students to voice concerns - Constructed a plan of action to address issues expressed- Received a nomination for the best new organization on campus from The Center for Student Involvement and Leadership- Introduced new cross-cultural relationships between students and organizations- Established the first multicultural block party on campus- Exposed issues brought forth by multicultural community members to administration- Compiled videos of student accounts and experiences regarding the cultural centers - Sent several letters written by students that covered a list of demands created for essential changes A multicultural block party was held at the cultural centers to raise awareness and bring more traffic. The following fall, the University President sat down with each community active in the separate cultural centers and listened to concerns which led to the revamping of the cultural centers. By May 2017, two of the four houses had been renovated, all four received clearly marked signs, and a bus route was added. In addition a long-term plan for further improvement and a large multicultural event center was begun.

Cultural Immersion LeaderAuroville International And Aurobindo Centers Aug 2014 - Jan 2015Puducherry, IndiaSri Arobindo Society's is an organization in Pondicherry India dedicated to the betterment of the community. I worked in the Rural Village Action and Movement or SAVRAM, an after-school program for children. I interacted with about 15 children that were 9-11 years old. The children lived in various villages approximately 30 miles from a major city. SAVRAM made it possible for these children to get an institutional education. The program helped the kids with school work, language practice, and testing skills. It also addressed domestic violence, personal hygiene, and exercise. SAVRAM has increased the graduation rate and the number of children enrolled in higher education from the area.- Practiced conversational English by playing games, teaching songs, and talking about life- Built an alumni program with 4 team members, using the information and experience we had with the program- Envisioned short and long-term goals for the alumni organization- Immersed in a foreign culture, learning part of local life- Supervised playtime and administrated snacks to over 40 childrenThe alumni program we proposed started with an achievement fair. The students came with their parents to show their accomplishments. They would participate in activities to explore career options, which also would feature a SAVRAM alumni to speak on how SAVRAM helped them reach success. Next, the program would offer a career day, where students would write an in-depth report on a career of their interest. Students would then be placed with a professional, and spend a day to experience that field. Sri Aurobindo has created many job opportunities throughout the area and in India providing many connections for the students. Last, the proposed alumni program would arrange local college visits for students 16-18. Students on the brim of graduation would be able to speak to professors and advisors, giving them a better picture of requirements.
