My role within the ASSIST Sheffield team was to contribute to the charity's aim and vision of helping destitute asylum seekers by providing accommodation, advice, and other support to those in most need or distress. Some of the tasks I did includes:• To oversee the appointments process for Support & Advocacy interviews. • Ensure that records and database systems relating to advocacy are kept in good order.• To provide face to face and over the phone customer service to clients, volunteer Interpreters, and volunteer Accompaniers and help clients with minor queries.• Handling client files, money, welfare payments, datasheets, and expenses forms from the ASSIST office.• Work collaboratively with other team members and the Support & Advocacy volunteers.

This role requires being able to work to deadlines and strong time-management skills due to the way appointments, meetings, and scheduled by the NHS and maintaining diaries/arranging appointments, a thorough knowledge of the medical terminology both in English and the other languages I work with. Strong IT skills to manage the bookings, complete the patient’s info, and the visiting details. Exceptional verbal and written skills to enable effective understanding between all parties involved, and also to communicate my work and progress to my supervisors and clients, and also when arranging transport to remote locations for the meetings.

My Masters' course enabled me to undergo full training in all of the professional laboratory procedures; Mastering Microbiological techniques, such as culturing, sterilization, and isolation of microbes. Other techniques I learned include Molecular biology techniques and Cell culture techniques, such as PCR, Electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, and Western Blot, cell- passaging, and tissue culture.My thesis was entitled: "BIOREMEDIATION OF CHROMIUM VI BY METHANOOXIDISING BACTERIA" where I used the bacterium Methylococcus capsulatus as a model to test the ability of methanotrophs for the bio-degradation of harmful-toxic compounds.
