I don't know the intention with which you, respected reader, clicked on my profile with. I don't know if I interest you as a potential recruit or if LinkedIn has devolved -- or evolved, depending on who's asked -- into a social network one scrolls through mindlessly. It doesn't particularly matter. Any intention is valid. What I do hope, though, is for you to keep reading, if only for a short while:I was born and raised, as were the vast majority of my family, in Kiev/Kyiv, the historic capital regarded as the 'mother of all Slavic cities'. By a stroke of fate, the home in which I reside became the United States. That vast majority of loved ones I previously mentioned, as well as every single kid I grew up alongside, became fighters against Putin's occupation or civilians whose lives hang on by the walls of bomb shelters and bricks of cellars surrounding them. I know there are human rights abuses all over the world not lucky enough -- or privileged enough, by the unjust virtue of skin color, continent, ethnicity or nationality -- to amass a fraction of the spotlight our war has seemingly monopolized, especially through coverage on Western news outlets. But please know that does not erase the emergency of the situation at hand.Every single day, people are dying. Every single day, Russian and Belarusian soldiers, following orders bestowed upon them by forces complicit in aiding and abetting propagandist dictators, are bombing Ukraine's structures, creating traumatic and torturous conditions for citizens, and, worst of all, murdering innocent civilians. Every single soul who dreamt of a better life -- or any life at all -- lies in the ground due to a cruel and useless war. Every single soul that stays alive wonders if they too, are next.The magnitude of betrayal and tragedy of this war cannot be translated into a verbal medium. There is nuance which no person, unless they are the bearer of said ethnicity, can truly understand. But please try. As journalists, we are tasked with voicing the voiceless. Please, Western journalists, use your platforms to tell the stories which cannot be told otherwise. Every day that is wasted with extended 'dialogues' in which occupants draw out time before reaching conclusions, people, filled with their own intricate life stories, people, deserving of ceasefire and peace, are buried in the ground.
